The Heritage Railway Association hosts an annual award evening every year to celebrate the achievements of volunteers and Heritage Railways throughout the UK.
This year Aaron Luckarift our Operations and Safety Manager was nominated for the Lord Faulkner Young Volunteer Award. On Saturday 8th February 2020 Aaron and other volunteers attended the award night at the Burlington Hotel in Birmingham. The evening started with a 3 course meal and a presentation by Guest Speaker Christian Wolmar the award winning writer and broadcaster specialising in transport and railway history. Who as also featured on many Railway TV programs such as Julia Bradbury’s Railway Walks.
After the speech from Christian the awards started celebrating many achievements in the Heritage Railway Industry from Restoration to Carriages and Rolling Stock, Outstanding Locomotive Overhaul/Restoration, Young Volunteer, Special Events, Outstanding Visitor Attraction and Communications/Publicity Awards.
In the category Young Volunteer our Operations and Safety Manager, Aaron Luckarift came runner up with Philip Civil from Chasewater Railway winning the award.
Dave Court Chairman of Elsecar Heritage Railway said “it is good that we participate in events such as the Heritage Railway Awards as it is a good event to network and socialise with other people from railways and the railway industry but also to celebrate the achievements that our volunteers and other volunteers do to keep the Heritage Railway’s alive for the future generations to come and without young volunteers and there enthusiasm also dedication it wouldn’t be possible.”
